I am frequently asked to which extent the teachers have an impact on a musician’s career. It probably depends on both sides – how authoritarian the teacher’s style is and if it is possible for them to have a formative influence on the student after all. As far as I am concerned, my teachers have had a great impact on me and I have tried to take every criticism seriously. To a certain degree I have maintained this trait to this day, always enjoying discussions with my colleagues – conductors or chamber music partners – and reflecting their critiques.
